Writing Lessons
My writing philosophy is to help students enjoy the art of writing and expression. In school, students are taught what to write and how to write in a specific way.
My goal is to allow students to find a love for putting words on the page. I have students choose subjects and research topics that are of interest to them. I will never tell a child what to write either.
My process is in two parts:
-
Drafting: In these sessions, students will conduct research and write as much as possible on a topic of their choice. They will decide when they are finished and I will observe, taking note of their writing process, their areas of improvement, and more. I am a sounding board where students can discuss ideas and receive guidance on where to begin in their writing journey.
-
Revising: In these sessions, students and I will go line by line, sentence by sentence, word for word, on the drafts that they produced. I will ask questions, offer clarity, provide feedback, and give suggestions. Students will decide whether or not they would like to make changes. But we will overall work on grammar, organization, strength of argument and the use of evidence. The focus of these lessons are for students to build the thought process of anticipating what readers should and want to know, as well as how to build their own writing voice that is unique to themselves.
Writing is an art of practice, so we will go over a variety of essays including: free writing, narrative, persuasive essays, research essays, analytical essays using quotes, and more.
Over time, students and parents/guardians can review progress by reading the "befores" and "afters" of the drafting and revising process.

Swim Lessons (pool availability and weather dependent)
If you have access to a pool and would like your child to learn how to swim, I have over 10 years of swimming experience and over 5 years of swim lesson teaching experience under my belt.
I have been Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/Water Safety Instructor Certified by the American Red Cross. Due to Covid, I have not been able to get my certifications renewed but I am up to date and practice skills regularly.
